Parati Carnival

Monday, January 24, 2011

If you are not a big fan of the Rio Carnival, head down to the Parati Carnival, organized down on the coast to the old colonial town of Parati. The party here is more traditional, significantly less crowded and is set in a lovely utopian environment.

Some of the most exciting attractions at these Parati celebrations include masked blocos, carnival groups, along with children and adults who are dressed in fancy clothing and effigies of famous personalities. The carnival costume here is scary in a harmless way, with deformed papier mache heads and skulls. The vast majority of the celebrations are held in the historic district of Parati, but tourists can also go to a lot of events that take place right on the beach.
